Excel 2013 & 2010 "There was a problem sending the command to the program"
We have put into place a brand new computer with a fresh install of Microsoft office 2010 professional plus. Upon clicking on an Excel document to open the program and open the document there is the error that states "There was a problem sending the command to the program." Excel starts but does not open the document. If you click on the document again it opens in the already open Excel. Close Excel completely and the process starts over again. I have went through all of the solutions presented in Knowledgebase 3001579 ( https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3001579/ ) which all of the combined have not resolved the problem.  So I uninstalled 2010 cleaned the computer and registry, reinstalled 2010 and error still exists.  So I have once again uninstalled 2010 cleaned the computer and registry and have installed Office 2013 professional plus. And what do you know, the problem still exists.  I have installed hundreds of versions of office over the years and have never experienced this issue. Has anyone found a solution that works.  Or do I just go and rebuild the brand new PC and reinstall to see if that will fix it.  Just wanted to post on here before I go and rebuild.

Hi,

As far as I know, this is an Office 2013/2010 known issue. It might be caused by some factors.

One:

File associations in the registry were pointing to the Office Compatibility Pack, but Office 2003/2007 is not installed.

Please try to uninstall Office Compatibility Pack, and then repair Office 2013.

Two:

The REG key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers\C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\EXCEL.EXE is setting Excel to run as admin, causing the issue.

Please try to remove the ~RUNASADMIN data field from the following key: Path: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers\C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\EXCEL.EXE thus forcing Excel not to run in elevated mode anymore.

Hope it's helpful.

Regards,

Thanks
